MLB expected to reduce Harper's suspension by 1 game

MLB expected to reduce Harper's suspension by 1 game

After being hit in the hip by a pitch from Giants' reliever Will Strickland, Harper charged the mound and a brawl ensued. However, FanRag Sports has confirmed that Harper's suspension has since been reduced to just three games.

Harper will begin serving his suspension Wednesday as the Nationals close out their series with the Giants; they begin a three-game set with the Athletics on Friday.

Strickland also has appealed his six-game suspension for plunking Harper with a 98 miles per hour fastball, triggering the incident Monday at AT&T Park.

Both players were ejected, and Strickland was given a six-game ban. In addition to the suspensions, both players received fines for their actions.

"I wasn't going up there thinking about it", Harper said after Monday's game. "Whatever they ultimately decide, I'll own it and take the responsibility".

Harper was booed loudly before his first at-bat Tuesday before grounding out to first base.

Harper still sounded bewildered that Strickland would hold a grudge for so long, saying, "It's just insane that it even happened yesterday".

The bad blood between the two stemmed from a pair of home runs Harper hit off Strickland in the 2014 playoffs. "I don't know. I don't know what was going through his mind or how upset he was the past couple of years". If he did have a problem, he could've talked to me in BP about it and say: 'I didn't like the way you went about it.' But that's not human nature, I guess. In the end, Harper gets off with a slightly reduced sentence.

On the other hand, the Giants were also forced to place veteran utility man Michael Morse on he club's seven-day concussion disabled list due to his role in the recent altercation.

"I know Buster has our back", Strickland said.
