Mickelson to miss US Open for daughter's graduation

Mickelson to miss U.S. Open for daughter's graduation

Mickelson, whose birthday nearly always falls during U.S. Open week and turns 47 this June, has had family issues come up during the season's second major in the past.

Phil Mickelson has announced that he will miss this year's US Open to attend his daughter's High School graduation. Karen Crouse of The New YorK Times reported Mickelson's intentions to skip the U.S. Open in two weeks, as the first day of the event is also when his daughter, Amanda, graduates from high school.

Mickelson has not officially withdrawn, but it seems only a first-round weather washout or a late date change of the graduation ceremony could allow him to participate.

Mickelson has appeared in every U.S. Open that he's been eligible for since he joined the PGA Tour in 1994.

"Mike and I both agree there's no sense in [officially withdrawing] right now".

G7 leaders divided on climate change
The backing of the Paris Agreement goals from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Britain is not a surprise. The G-7 leaders had better luck finding agreement on the other problematic topic at the summit, trade.

"I don't know what will happen, but it doesn't look very good". It would have to be something unforeseen.
"I wanted to make sure that they had enough notice to accommodate it". "But this is one of those moments where you look back on life and you just don't want to miss it". Amanda, who will attend Brown University in the fall, is the class president and commencement speaker.

"We certainly understand and support that Phil's family commitments are of paramount importance, and hope that the timing will work in his favour".

Amanda was born a day after the US Open at Pinehurst in 1999, when Mickelson finished second to Payne Stewart.

The five-time major victor who has never won the U.S. Open said he's been aware of the conflict for about six months. He and wife Amy are the parents of Amanda (17), Sophia (15) and Evan (14), and Phil again left no doubt as to his priorities Saturday. You just need to be there.
