Local law enforcement raises money for Special Olympics with Torch Run

Over the course of the 1,900-mile (3,058-kilometer) journey, officers from 14 regions will carry the Special Olympics Flame of Hope.

Local law enforcement and the Carroll County State's Attorney's Office will take to the streets of Carroll County as they walk, run and bike to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland.

Starting in Provincetown at 5AM and scheduled to end in Buzzard's Bay at Mezza Luna Restaurant at approximately 4:20PM, Special Olympics athletes will join the runners across the Bourne Bridge on the final leg.

The official send-off for Special Olympics athletes from the Topeka area will be at 8 a.m. Friday in the east parking lot of TARC, 2701 S.W. Randolph.

Thursday, local law enforcement escorted a group of unbelievable athletes across the Binghamton University campus to Tully's restaurant on the Vestal Pkwy, giving them strength to carry the Special Olympic torch. More than 142,000 volunteers from 113 LETR programs across 46 countries every year carry the "Flame of Hope", raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics.

Members of the Arvada Police Department, along with those from surrounding agencies including Westminster, Jefferson County, Wheat Ridge and Lakewood, will run the 13.1 miles from 88th and Wadsworth to the Colorado State Capitol.
