Jury deadlocks in Cosby trial; judge says keep deliberating

Jurors in Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial have told a judge they're deadlocked on charges the comedian drugged and molested a woman in 2004.

Judge Steven O'Neill praised them for their efforts, which includes three consecutive 12-hour days of deliberation.

The 79-year-old Cosby is facing more than 10-years behind bars if found guilty by a jury for three felony charges of second-degree aggravated indecent assault against then Temple University employee Andrea Constand.

Bill Cosby supporters stand with a sign outside the Montgomery County Courthouse where Cosby is waiting for deliberations to finish on the ninth day of his sexual assault trial in Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S. June 15, 2017.

Jurors in the Bill Cosby sexual assault case, weighing charges that could send him to prison for the rest of his life, drilled down Tuesday on what the TV star said happened inside his suburban Philadelphia home and how he characterized his relationship with the accuser. This being said, the judge has ordered that the jury continues to deliberate to attempt at working towards a proper verdict for this criminal trial.

That prompted O'Neill to ask the comedian on Friday whether he understood that a hung jury would allow prosecutors to retry him.

They are now deadlocked on a verdict. In those interviews, Cosby admitted to sexual contact with Constand and said they had previously had a romantic encounter.

Cosby's lawyers sought to discredit her by pointing to discrepancies between her testimony and several statements she made to law enforcement in 2005, when she first reported the incident a year after it allegedly occurred.

Constand denies there was any romance between them and told jurors she had rebuffed his advances before the assault.

As the rhythmic drumming continued, Victoria Valentino, a former Playboy bunny from the 1960s who says Cosby assaulted her decades ago, danced to the music on the courthouse steps.

The portion of Constand's seven hours of trial testimony during which she talked about the night she says Cosby drugged and sexually violated her.

The sequestered jurors have appeared increasingly exhausted and upset after deliberating late into the night the past three days.

The jury's latest note, the ninth they have sent since deliberations began Monday evening, asked to rehear trial testimony from both Constand and her mother, Gianna.

Cosby could face ten years in prison for each count if convicted.

The judge's decision was echoed by Gloria Allred, Constand's lawyer, who snapped at Wyatt for pushing for mistrial.

But so far, the jury said it hasn't unanimously decided whether he's guilty.

Meanwhile, accuser Andrea Constand's shoulders appeared to wilt when the note was read.

But when speaking about her career plans one night at his home, the sweater-wearing actor known as "America's Dad" gave her three blue pills that he said were herbal and would help her relax, she testified.

"We can not come to a unanimous consensus on any of these counts", the panel said in a note to the judge, according to NBC News.

The AP does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.
