A van ploughed into a crowd of Muslims near a London mosque early on Monday, killing one person and injuring 10 others in the second terror attack this month in the British capital.

A 47-year-old man was restrained by locals at the scene and police later arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and terrorism offences.

They had been helping a man who had collapsed.

Ten people were hurt, all of them Muslims, with eight of them requiring hospital treatment.

The Muslim Council tweeted that worshippers were struck by a van as they were leaving prayers near the Finsbury Park mosque.

Police say a total of 11 people were injured.

Prime Minister Theresa May described what happened as a "sickening attempt to destroy freedoms" in the United Kingdom.

"He was sitting and holding him like that, people kept holding him", Ali said. Britain's political establishment equated the incident with two recent terror attacks on Westminster and London bridges.

According to Osborne's mother, he is "no terrorist" (except for the fact he carried out a terrorist attack). "It seeks to drive us apart and to break the precious bonds of solidarity and citizenship which we share in this country". "We will not let this happen".

Neighbors and acquaintances described the man who allegedly attacked a group of Muslim worshippers as an unemployed lout who was drinking heavily and making anti-Muslim remarks in the days before the attack - details to be closely examined as the investigation widened Tuesday. Those attacks and a third outside a pop concert in Manchester have triggered a surge in hate crimes against Muslims around Britain.

Britain's terrorist alert is set at "severe", meaning an attack is highly likely, Sky News reported.

"He seemed like a good dad, he takes the kids to school and back every day and walks the dogs, she said".

Police said the driver was detained by the crowd until police arrived.
