".Our fundamental problem is with the occupation and settlements, and failure of Israel to recognize the state of Palestine in the same way we recognize it, which undermines the realization of the two-state solution.

We can not stand a moment longer for the slaughter of innocent people", Trump said.

Trump arrived in Israel on Monday for meetings with Israeli and Palestinian leaders after visiting Saudi Arabia and before continuing to the Vatican to meet Pope Francis. "President Trump welcomed the steps that Prime Minister Netanyahu's security cabinet have taken to improve the Palestinian economy, noting that greater economic opportunity for Palestinians would enhance the prospects for peace".

"The United States and Israel can declare with one voice that Iran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon- never ever - and must cease its deadly funding, training and equipping of terrorists and militias", Trump said.

President Trump left Israel on Tuesday after making a final appeal for Mideast peace - but he offered few specific suggestions on how to go about resolving the conflict. Trump will be testing the waters for jumpstarting the dormant Middle East peace process, though White House officials have tamped down prospects for a breakthrough on the trip.

Having insisted that he was capable of striking the "ultimate deal" for peace between Palestinians and Israelis, Trump made no mention of a two-state solution, which has always been considered internationally as the preferred solution but which Israel's right-wing government has publicly begun to shy away from.

Welcoming the United States president, Netanyahu noted "the forceful" speech delivered by Trump the previous day in Saudi Arabia, when he "called on all nations to drive out terrorists and extremists".

Trump said that he believes that Abbas and Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu are ready to work on achieving peace. "This includes a renewed effort at peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians".

He could be seen entering the holy site along with First Lady Melania Trump under heavy security.

He will also pay a visit to the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial on Tuesday.

Trump reportedly told Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak at a meeting this month about an Islamic State threat using laptops on planes, including highly classified details about the origin of the intelligence, which came from a "partner" later reported to be Israel.
