European stocks rose in early trade, with a weaker euro, higher oil prices and a raft of well-received corporate earnings helping underpin investor sentiment.

The 50-share NSE Nifty gained 43.35 points, or 0.46 per cent, to quote at a life-time high of 9,450.65.

After a strong opening, the BSE 30-share gauge reclaimed the 30,000-mark to hit a high of 30,016.04, before closing at 29,926.15, up 67.35 points, or 0.23 per cent.

A total of 14 scrips in the 30-share Sensex pack ended higher, while 16 scrips fell while on the 51-share Nifty, 29 scrips advanced while 22 scrips declined.

The BSE benchmark Sensex, which rose to 30,346.79, is now at 30,315.50, up 67.33 points or 0.22% from previous close.

The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 4,031.10 crore, higher than Rs 3,625.49 crore registered during the previous trading session.

"Major Asian markets have all ended on a positive note, barring SET and Shanghai index".

Zee Entertainment Enterprises jumped 5.7% to 545.35 rupees, taking its two-day gains to almost 10%.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.64 per cent while Japan's Nikkei gained 0.30 per cent in early trade. BSE Small-cap index closed higher by 0.53% at 15,544. It was followed by HUL 4.60 per cent, HDFC 3.25 per cent, M&M 2.59 per cent, Reliance 2.17 per cent, Bajaj Auto 1.74 per cent, Axis Bank 1.68 per cent, Maruti 1.53 per cent, Cipla 1.49 per cent and Tata Motors 1.25 per cent.
