Police arrest 16th person in connection with Manchester attack

A further arrest was made in the investigation into the Manchester bombing on Monday, authorities said, with the detention of a 23-year-old suspect from an address in Shoreham-by-Sea.

The arrest means 14 men are now in custody in Britain for suspected roles in the bombing of an Ariana Grande concert that killed 22 people. Two other men have been released, with no charges filed.

"This is an ongoing investigation so I'm not going to be drawn into comments on the actual man who committed this crime", Rudd told BBC television, declining to say what was known about Abedi and when.

The British domestic intelligence agency was facing pressure after it emerged that Salman Abedi's friends, family and members of his mosque all raised concerns about the attacker with the Home Office and anti-terror hotlines.

Counter-terrorism police said on Saturday they are making good progress on the fast-moving investigation and are gathering a detailed picture of Abedi, his associates and his finances.

On Sunday Home Secretary Amber Rudd said she would "not rush to conclusions" that agents "somehow missed something".

Ms Rudd said it was not for her to demand that a certain number of Temporary Exclusion Orders be used, but to make sure the security service has the "tools they can use" to protect the public.

Britain's terror threat level has also been reduced to "severe" from "critical".

Authorities are appealing for more information about his final days. "They picked the wrong people to mess with this time".

The family of one victim, 18-year-old Georgina Callander, said her life had been cut short by "evil, evil men prepared to ruin lives and destroy families".

Greater Manchester Chief Constable Ian Hopkins and Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, senior national co-ordinator for UK Counter Terrorism Policing, said in a joint statement on Saturday: "In the past five days we have gathered significant information about Abedi, his associates, his finances, the places he had been, how the device was built and the wider conspiracy".
