'He could've been saved,' Shayanna Jenkins tells Dr. Phil

'He could've been saved,' Shayanna Jenkins tells Dr. Phil

In her first public appearance since the death of fiancé Aaron Hernandez, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez told Dr. Phillip McGraw that she doesn't think that Hernandez's death in his prison cell was a suicide, as authorities have ruled.

In a phone call to his fiancee only hours before he died, Aaron Hernandez gave no indications he was going to kill himself and ended the call by telling Shayanna Jenkins Hernandez "babe I gotta go, they are shutting the doors". "Until we can get in there and do our own investigation and I actually - I guess - trust where these answers are coming from, maybe I can have some comfort in the truth".

"We would try to go once a week, sometimes twice", she said.

This image released by CBS Television Distribution shows Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez fiancee of former National Football League player Aaron Hernandez during an interview on the "Dr. Phil" show.

"It was addressed to Shay, instead of, you know, babe", which she said he usually called her.

Of the handwriting on the note, Shayanna commented that it "was similar, but I feel like, again, you have nothing but time in there, so I feel like it's easily duplicated - or could be".

Hernandez's hung himself just five days after he was acquitted in the 2012 double murder of Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Teixeira Furtado, 28.

Jenkins-Hernandez made the comments during an interview with Dr. Phil that's set to air in a two-part special May 15-16.

Watch a preview of the interview below. She spoke to Aaron one day before he was found dead in his prison cell.

In fact, it has since been theorized that the real motivation for Lloyd's murder was that Lloyd knew about Hernandez's homosexual tendencies and threatened to tell Shayanna, who was his girlfriend's sister.

"And I won't tell her until she decides to ask or if she asks", she continued.

Asked if Avielle understood her father was a convicted murderer, or even that she was visiting him in prison, Jenkins-Hernandez said they always kept the visits positive.

She didn't offer an explanation for Hernandez's death if it wasn't a suicide and said she had no reason to believe anyone would want to kill him. It wasn't intimate. I don't know.

Jenkins-Hernandez also said she doesn't think Hernandez was a gang member. "She was very much a daddy's girl". According to Jenkins-Hernandez, there were no red flags in his behavior leading up to his death.

She added: "It screamed love, but it wasn't personal". There were some odd parts where it just didn't make sense, it wasn't clicking in my head as far as what he may have been thinking or what he was trying to say.
