Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov denies discussing the firing of former FBI Director James Comey with President Donald Trump during his White House visit earlier this month.
White House hopes that Mr Trump could leave scandalous allegations at home were crushed in a one-two punch of revelations that landed shortly after his departure.
The GOP senator's comments come as the Trump administration grapples with series of bombshell stories surrounding the investigation into possible coordination between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election.
The White House has said the firing was unrelated to the FBI's Russian Federation investigation. The day before, Rosenstein told senators that Trump had made a decision to fire Comey before asking Rosenstein for a memo offering justification for the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director's sacking.
Comey's commitment to testify comes after a tough week for President Trump, who has been hit with numerous scandals since he sacked the Federal Bureau of Investigation director - including two more potential bombshells published by the New York Times and Washington Post on Friday.
