Sens. Richard Burr and Mark Warner, the chair and vice chair of the committee, made the announcement on Friday, and said that the testimony will be scheduled sometime after memorial day.
The New York Times cited a document summarizing the White House meeting Trump held with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russia's ambassador to Washington in the Oval Office the day after he fired FBI Director James Comey.
Other news reports have alleged Trump had previously asked Comey to stop the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
In a press release in response to the Times story, the White House disputed not the facts of the report, but the interpretation, saying Trump was talking not about the FBI's criminal investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, but about post-election scrutiny that was making it hard for him to work with Russian Federation.
This story is developing and will be updated as details come in.
"By grandstanding and politicising the investigation into Russia's actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russian Federation".
Trump told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov last week that Comey was a "nut job", according to the Times, citing notes taken at the meeting and read to the paper by a United States official.
Monaco coach Jardim staying cautious amid title euphoria
Normally such a reserved character, Jardim jumped off the bench and pumped his fist vigorously as he shuffled along the touchline. A point on Wednesday at home against Saint-Etienne, however, would guarantee the title and should have Jardim smiling at last.
Mr Rosenstein said, although he was personally fond of Mr Comey, "I thought it was appropriate to seek a new leader".
Maryland Congressman Elijah Cummings called Trump's reported comment "astonishing and extremely troubling". According to one of his close friends, Comey was "disgusted" by what he saw as Trump's attempts to compromise him, as the FBI Director has traditionally enjoyed a wide degree of autonomy from the White House.
House members and senators said Mr Rosenstein in his briefings steered clear of specifics in answering questions about his appointment of Mr Mueller, but made clear the former FBI director will have wide latitude to pursue the investigation - potentially including criminal charges.
Trump has repeatedly slammed the FBI and congressional investigations as a "hoax" and blamed disgruntled officials at intelligence agencies for leaking information related to the probes.
"No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly", he said.
She said it's a "ridiculous statement" for Trump to make and results in "elevating the Russians as his confidante at the expense of our justice system".
FBI Director James Comey prepares to testify on Capitol Hill on May 3.
