PlayStation 4 consoles may attract roaches, repairmen say

If you didn't have enough to be anxious about, don't worry, you can add one more thing to the list. a roach infestation in your PlayStation 4. But the results are so gross Sony won't fix PS4s with roaches in them, writes Kotaku's Cecilia D'Anastasio, sending mystified owners into the arms of disgusted local fix shops.

"You see those bags?" he asked. Writer Cecilia D'Anastasio learned this when visiting a console fix shop that had "black garbage bags... full of roaches" piled up in the corner.

The PS4's design accommodates roaches better than other consoles' because its ventilation grates are wider. "Those are bags full of roaches". Most consoles lie horizontally in dark or enclosed areas, like media centres, so they're pretty welcoming to the little critters. And, in fairness, most people with broken consoles aren't even aware that roaches were the cause. Roaches make their way into Xbox Ones sometimes, too.

US stock indexes edge higher in early trading; oil rises
Brent crude, the standard for worldwide oil prices, was up 52 cents, or 0.9 percent, at $55.76 a barrel in London. Japan's Nikkei 225 index, made up of multinational stocks that suffer from a stronger yen, fell 0.3%.

The internal power supply of the PlayStation 4, compared to the external power supply of the Xbox One, warms up the interior of the console better, and in combination with dark and enclosed spaces, make for a ideal bug hotel for cockroaches.

Sony reportedly doesn't fix these kinds of infested PS4s. They get at least one each week.

iFixIt employee Matt Zieminski claimed that, in most cases, owners who send in their PlayStation 4 units for repairs do not know that their console is packed with cockroaches.

This becomes a serious problem for gamers when fried roaches stuck inside of these piping hot consoles tend to break that hot internal power supply, making the PS4 incapable of turning on. "We kind of know right off the bat if there are poop stains on the vent of the fan - we assume it's bug-loaded". Then, they will take the console apart, sterilize it with an ultrasonic cleaner, and put it back together. And, of course, you should keep your place clean.
