NFL Draft: Likely Ohio State 1st-Round Pick Accused Of Sexual Assault

26 April 2017, 08:49 | Kristine Mills

Gareon Conley, a former cornerback at Ohio State and expected first-round pick, is accused of raping a woman at the Westin Hotel April 9.

Conley's attorney called the allegations "ludicrous and ridiculous".

The reporting officer said he tried to follow up with the alleged victim at the hospital but she "just kept saying she wanted to go home and that her dignity was stripped from her in a manner of minutes".

This comes as zero surprise, but on Tuesday, soon after rape allegations against him surfaced, Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley chose to not attend the 2017 NFL Draft.

It's unclear how exactly the alleged incident will impact Conley's draft stock, but Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports that "at least one team" interested in taking him in the first-round will not select him if this "cloud remains" Thursday night. Investigators are in the preliminary stages of gathering statements and had not interviewed Conley as of early Tuesday afternoon.

In a freakish report, WOIO Channel 19 didn't release the player's name, even though the entity has a statement from the player's attorney, Kevin Spellacy, WOIO said it did not have the official police report and no one has been accused of a crime, so it did not want to publish a name.

The victim told police that she had met Conley while with some friends in an elevator at the hotel and made a decision to go with Conley back to his room.

Conley was a star defensive back at Ohio State University and has entered the NFL Draft that will begin on April 27.

A short time later, the woman says Conley unbuttoned her trousers and began to have sex with her.

The woman went to a Cleveland-area hospital to be examined for rape.

The report states that Conley finished the sexual act and then kicked the accuser out of the room. A man and woman were already in the room when the victim arrived.

A Cleveland Police Department spokesperson told Land-Grant Holy Land that at this time, no warrant has been issued and no formal charges have been filed. She said she told Conley to stop.
