NCAA expected to announce championship game sites, will N.C. host?

The 2020 First and Second Round will mark the fifth time that CenturyLinkCenter Omaha has been the home to NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament action, joining Second/Third Round games it has hosted in 2008, 2012 and 2015, as well as the 2018 Regional games the facility will host next March 23rd & 25th.

The NCAA announced Tuesday it will return postseason competition to North Carolina after the state repealed its controversial HB2 law bill late last month, despite continued protests against the repealed law. And the ACC Baseball Championship will extend an agreement to return to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in 2018 and 2019, the announcement said.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — The Atlantic Coast Conference has added a replacement year to contracts for North Carolina venues that lost championships when the league relocated events due to a law limiting protections against LGBT people.

If you're waiting for me to announce what's being played in Charlotte, don't.

The NCAA decision comes 14 days after the Republican-controlled state legislature approved House Bill 142 and Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper signed it into law.

WakeMed Soccer Park will host the Division I women's soccer tournament, the College Cup, in 2018 and 2020.

Bids had been placed for JDL Fast Track indoor track for 2019, 2020 and 2021 Div. II championships, and Division III championships for 2019 through 2022'.

The NCAA received more than 3,000 bid submissions from NCAA member schools, conferences, sports commissions and cities vying to host predetermined rounds for 84 of the NCAA's 90 championships.

In swimming, Greensboro will host the 2021 Division 1 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Additional events returning to Greensboro are listed here. Jacksonville was the host of the first three title games from 2005 through 2007 before the game moved to Tampa in 2008 and 2009 and, as previously mentioned, Orlando in 2016.

SC was also included on the list for men's basketball sites, with Columbia hosting opening-weekend games in 2019 and Greenville hosting in 2022.

The new law repealed the issue over transgender bathrooms, but retained language from the original bill that kept local governments from enacting their own legislation that is inclusive of the LGBTQ community.

Altogether, there were 10 Division I championship events selected for North Carolina venues, as well as five Div. II events and eight Div. III events.

On Tuesday, following the state passage of a fig leaf of a bill that did little to reverse discrimination against LGBTQ citizens in North Carolina, the NCAA caved, following the fine example set by the National Basketball Association.
