District attorney: New developments in slain jogger case

An arrest has been made in connection to the death of Vanessa Marcotte, sources tell 5 Investigates. There were also signs that she had struggled with her attacker.

She was found dead on August 7, 2016, near Brooks Station Road in Princeton, just a few hours after her family said she went for a jog. He is being held at the Millbury State Police barracks on $1 million cash bail.

Standing in front of the Princeton Police Department Saturday afternoon, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early opened a press conference with these three short words, drawing cheers and applause from the crowd that had gathered to hear the latest news on the murder of 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte.

Although Ortiz has not been formally charged with murder yet, Early said he anticipates a murder charge soon, and referenced Ortiz as Marcotte's "killer". DNA from a possible suspect was obtained during Marcotte's autopsy, and on Friday, state police learned of a DNA match.
