The United States and Australia are facing off in a Davis Cup World Group Quarterfinal, and the Aussies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first two rubber matches on Friday.

The victor will move on to face either Belgium or Italy in the semi-finals of the yearly tournament, in September.

"We saw a player who's come of age, there's no doubt about that", Woodbridge said during Channel Seven's commentary.

The right-hander had won one match only since the February tie and also suffered an ankle injury, but has rallied when representing his country, pointing to a big tattoo on his right biceps of the Australian Olympic logo, inked after his Rio Games campaign past year.

Late in the first set of the doubles, former Australian Davis Cup victor Todd Woodbridge said on Channel Seven commentary that Sock looked as "flat as he was when he finished the match" on Friday. The visitors have Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson listed to play Sam Groth and John Peers but that can all change until an hour before play.

"He does a lot of things for a lot of juniors as well, coming up, so there's a lot of stuff that doesn't really get spoken about Nick Kyrgios off-court, either". Lets hopefully close it out tomorrow, ” world number 16 Kyrgios said on court after the win.
