There was a Chinese feel to this Milan derby which for once lived up to the hype even if the status of the two clubs has fallen in recent

With an Asian feel AC Milan stuns Inter at the death of riveting derby

In a deal worth 740 million euros ($786 million), the takeover by Chinese consortium Rossoneri Sport Investment Lux ends a 31-year Berlusconi reign which garnered an impressive 29 trophies, including five of their seven Champions League titles.

Later on Saturday Juventus dispatched bottom-side Pescara 2-0 with goals from Gonzalo Higuaín, taking his season's tally to 29.

And Zapata hooked the ball off the underside of the bar and in to level.

Despite a brilliant start from Vincello Montella's nominal visitors in the ground the two clubs share - Carlos Bacca firing just over and on-loan Everton man Gerard Deulofeu hitting the upright in the opening minutes - Inter were more clinical when it mattered.

The result kept AC Milan sixth in Serie A, inside the European places, while Inter stayed outside in seventh, two points behind their rivals.

But Nerazzurri hopes were dashed when Bacca got on the end of Suso's corner to set up Zapata for a messy victor bundled home from a tight angle.

Atalanta remained fifth, two points ahead of AC Milan.

Both Inter and AC Milan have fallen on hard times, though there's still plenty of pride to be fought over at the San Siro in the round's early kickoff. The rossoneri found themselves fall a goal behind after a lofted pass and excellent movement from Candreva dizzied Mattia De Sciglio so that Candreva found the room to put the ball beyond Donnarumma.

The red and black section of the San Siro then fell deadly silent when Icardi was allowed to run in unmarked on 44 minutes to poke Ivan Perisic's pinpoint delivery into the net.

The Nerazzurri almost snatched a third when a rapid counter released Icardi down the left wing before the striker found Perisic with a slide-rule pass but the winger's first-time effort was too tame to trouble Donnarumma.

Handanovic tipped a bouncing Deulofeu strike past his left-hand post but survived a nervy moment when he lost his grip on the ball under pressure from Bacca, who was unable to fashion a chance to shoot.

Milan got back in the match in the 66th minute when Romagnoli volleyed in Suso's cross from close range, giving Milan new belief.
